MURMALI ETHICS & SUSTAINABILITY
Our logo stands for the link between our day-to-day lives and Nature.
Murmali is a vegan brand therefore there are no animal products used in production or packaging.
The United Unions declared that following our "normal" diet of animal-based foods is unsustainable as the population grows. Adopting a vegan/vegetarian diet is one of the most effective ways to protect the environment.
All linings inside all Murmali bags are made out of 100% natural materials.
In addition to being vegan, most of our materials are natural and therefore biodegradable.
By sourcing all of our materials in Spain and Portugal we reduce significantly the CO2 emitted to the atmosphere by transport.
We produce our handbags in a small artisan shop in Portugal. We visit the factory diligently and have a strong relationship with the owners and the employees. This close relationship allows us to ensure the quality of all our accessories.
Our handbags manufacture operates by the ISO 14001, which certifies sustainable management of the accredited company.
Cork fabric is manufactured from the bark harvested from oak trees. Due to the need to not hurt the tree while the bark is extracted, the harvesting process is carried out manually, without the involvement of any type of machinery.
Harvesting cork bark assists in the absorption of CO2 – a greenhouse gas that causes climate change. In fact, harvested cork trees absorb 3-5 times more CO2 than non-harvested trees. Cork oak trees in Portugal alone help offset 10 million tons of carbon every year.
Murmali’s metal hardware is made of solid brass, a metal that has the capacity to be recycled an infinite number of times.
The ink used to cool our fabrics is non-toxic & non-tested on animals.
We do not use any type of foil stamping in our handbags. Instead, we engrave by laser our branding and serial numbers.
Every year we contribute to the planting of cork oaks in the South of Spain and Portugal.
